Fishing in Cottonwood

One Monday in April, Hazel skipped school (they had a field trip to the park. seriously - the park.) and we went fishing and barbecued with the in-laws in Cottonwood. We had a really fun time and pretty much everyone who cast in caught something. Most of the fish were small and not really edible so we mostly did catch and release.

Speed caught the most but Hazel and I caught the trout we had with our lunch. They were delicious.

One of the funniest moments of the day was when Zizah found the bucket we were keeping the trout in until we were ready to clean and grill them. She grabbed the trout and made a break for the water to throw it back in. Then when we stopped her, she had a pretty big cry-fest. She seemed to just be so sad that the fish wasn't going back in the water.

We also had one bluegill that got hooked too deeply to throw back so Jacob walked over to where these herons were hanging out and fed it to one of them. They were obviously pretty used to the whole process.

We stopped at Dairy Queen on our way back to Phoenix for a quick dinner and some ice cream to cool down. We've fished here before and I'm sure we'll do it again - it's close to where family lives plus it's easy fishing which is really fun for the kids.
