Tax Time!

Well, family, it's that time of year again. The time of year when I'm at work until 8 or 9 pm for a couple weeks in a row and I have dreams about getting phone calls from different state Depts of Revenue - that's right: it's tax time!

And since I have no shame in this matter, the whole purpose of this post is to promote my company's websites that we launched last night. :-) We have 5, each of which serves different tax situations.

• www.my1040ez.com is for those simple taxpayers among us. Free federal return and the state is only about $10.


• www.my1040a.com is for those mostly simple taxpayers among us. Free federal return and the state is only about $10.


• www.express1040.com is for the majority of us, with the ability to itemized deductions and so forth. Free federal return and the state is only about $10.


• www.taxhawk.com is a special case this year. It files the 1040 (most complicated form) like express1040 does, but we're doing a special offer this year where if you file on taxhawk.com and your AGI (adjusted gross income) is less than $20,000, you can get both your federal and state return for free. Pretty cool, eh?(If your AGI is more the $20,000, the state is more like $13, but if you start on this site and find out you're over the limit, you can transfer your account to one of the other sites that has a cheaper state price.)


• There's also www.freetaxusa.com, but the free federal return on that site is conditional (has to do with special stuff for us to use that site to participate in IRS E-filing stuff - long story) so I wouldn't recommend it.

Now we don't support every state (Arkansas is one that we don't support - sorry, Wendy and Chad) but we've got a sizable chunk of the ones that require a state tax return. And we don't do part-year resident returns, so we're no good for those who moved in the last year between states. And I know that some of you have some seriously complicated taxes, so we might not be the best choice because we don't support everything (but we're getting closer every year). But in my own humble opinion, we've got a pretty good product and if any of my fabulous family should feel so inclined, you should check it out. :-)

Also, if you just want to do your free federal with us and then not do the state, that's completely cool. In fact, most of our customers do just that. :-) And I won't be at all offended if you guys want to stick with how you've been doing your taxes in previous years, but if you want, check us out.
